JOB FUNCTION:

The Sales Engineer is responsible for pre-Sales design, proposal generation and general sales support across all Comstar solution sets. These solutions include but are not limited to voice services (UC and Premise based), carrier services (ISP), IT/MSP products/services, structured cabling, physical security, audio visual, and DAS systems

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Design and develop appropriate solutions across all Comstar’s product and service platforms to address client needs; collaborate with internal Sales staff, Technology Solutions Team and clients to interpret client needs, design the appropriate solutions and provide a quote defining the solution; contribute to the generation of both a Statement of Work and Scope of Work as required; educate internal staff and clients on our solutions stack; suggest additional solutions that may lead to cost savings or operational efficiencies; assist with transitioning prospect or upsell/change order activity from pre-Sales to implementation by engaging Project Management and Supply Chain staff.

2. Develop, or assist in developing, all design documentation and accurately account for physical deployment and configuration including equipment used and its placement on premise; account for features/functionality and client performance requirements; adhere to all internal processes, procedures and SLAs related to quote generation

3. Assist the Company in researching and developing new, competitive products and solutions; identify new solutions, partners/suppliers, products or services of interest through prospect, client, and Agent dialogue and communicate considerations to Technology Solutions team; assist with Independent Verification and Validation process (IVV) by clearly communicating use case to Engineering and Technology Solutions teams and contribute to testing process; coordinate possible beta testing with prospects and/or clients as needed.

4. Assist the Technology Solutions and Engineering Teams to create and maintain the Company’s Product Guide, contributing to process document generation and maintenance (e.g., design documents, quote templates, client questionnaires)

5. Develop “expert generalist” mindset to include demonstrating a conversational level understanding of all Company products and services; maintain knowledge of all solution offerings to contribute to education and advertising campaigns; provide product training to both internal and external stakeholders; ensure the Company has current release notes and product/service details available in a public form, e.g. SharePoint

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors’ Degree in Business, Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience

• 3-5 years’ experience in at least one of the Companies product silos

• Sales engineering capacity to include performing site surveys, attending sales calls or field appointments and developing appropriate quotes; experience in service, technology or infrastructure a plus

• Knowledge of general engineering practices and required discipline in voice and data technologies, MSP/IT, cabling, audio-visual or security a plus

• Soft Skills: excellent customer interfacing skills (verbal, social, written); excellent communicator internally and externally; creative thinker and problem solver; ability to effectively interact with multiple disciplines/departments; technology orientation and willingness to acquire new skills related to the Companies’ products and services
